This week marks one of my most favorite weeks during the school year...Read Across America! Many teachers and schools celebrate the love of reading by honoring the late Dr. Seuss and all his fantastic stories. I love to do that as well, BUT I really like to highlight and celebrate all authors! During the month of March, I love to pull out all of my favorite books and authors and take time to read those stories to my students, as well!
This year, not only do I want to celebrate Read Across America with my students, but with all of my blog followers, too! A few weeks ago, I came across the Etsy store Trashy Crafter. Kim, is the founder and creative energy behind this very unique store. Kim takes classic books and children's stories from thrift stores or library sales and turns the pages into art! Not just any art, but wearable art! She creates bracelets, necklaces, and earrings from the actual pages of the books!!!
She carefully cuts the pages of the books and turns them into beads. The pictures above show you the process of cutting and making each bead BY HAND!
Here is Kim hard at work, pouring her love into each piece of jewelry she makes.
One of my most favorite children's book is Where The Wild Things Are.
Kim was so sweet and sent me one of her two piece bracelet sets of Where The Wild Things Are! I was so excited when this little package arrived at my front door.
How special and meaningful is the wrapping? It's a map, a journey, an adventure...just like the book will take you one when you read it!
I was in awe with the quality of the bracelet. I could tell a lot of time, love and energy was put into making each bead, and color combination. I wore it to work the next day and received tons of compliments. When I told people the story behind the bracelets they fell in love even more with them!
Kim has been SO generous and offered to give one of her two piece bracelet sets away to one of my lucky followers. All you have to do is enter through the rafflecopter below before March 9th and you must be a resident of the United States to win. I hope you fall in love with the Trashy Crafter as much as I have. Good Luck!
